The last fully operational hospital in northern Gaza has run out of medicine and blood, according to its director.
Kamal Adwan Hospital, the last fully operational facility in northern Gaza, is caring for over 150 patients, including 15 in intensive care, some of whom are newborns, according to its director, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya.
Abu Safiya reported that the hospital has run out of:
- Blood units
Medications
Basic medical equipment, such as chest drainage tubes
He stated that the hospital’s medical staff “have nothing to offer” patients, calling the situation “catastrophic.”
The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) warned that health services in northern Gaza are on the “brink of collapse.”
Additionally, Abu Safiya noted that ambulance crews attempting to reach injured individuals near the hospital have been “directly targeted” by Israeli gunfire. He accused the Israeli military of shooting at the hospital’s entrance and firing artillery shells, which he described as a “direct targeting of the health organization.
Blinken meets with families of American-Israeli hostages
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with the families of American-Israeli hostages held in Gaza on Tuesday, as reported by the Hostages Families Forum Headquarters.
The families urged Blinken, who is in Israel as part of a regional tour, to increase pressure on mediating countries to resume negotiations for a hostage deal, particularly emphasizing the need to pressure Qatar. They highlighted the importance of leveraging the death of former Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, killed by the Israel Defense Forces last week, suggesting it could create an opportunity to negotiate the return of all hostages—both living for rehabilitation and deceased for proper burial.
Of the more than 100 hostages still in Gaza, seven are American-Israeli. At a separate event with Israeli President Isaac Herzog, Blinken noted that Sinwar’s death provided “an important opportunity to bring the hostages home, to end the war, and to ensure Israel’s security.”
On Tuesday, Blinken also met with several high-ranking Israeli officials and is set to travel to Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, according to a senior administration official.
