Netanyahu says after Sinwar’s death Israeli military will “continue forward until the end”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Israeli forces will “press forward until the end” following the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. Netanyahu made the statement to Israeli media on Saturday, although the location of his remarks was not disclosed.
“We eliminated the master murderer Yahya Sinwar,” Netanyahu said, calling it a critical moment in Israel’s ongoing military efforts. He reaffirmed his stance, saying, “We are in the war of resurrection and we continue forward until the end.”
When asked if anything could deter him from the current course, he responded firmly, “No, nothing will deter us. We continue until victory.”
Netanyahu also expressed pride in Israel’s soldiers and citizens for their efforts throughout the conflict.
This follows remarks from White House national security adviser John Kirby on Friday, who identified Sinwar as the main obstacle to a ceasefire in Gaza. Kirby suggested that Sinwar’s death could represent an “inflection point” in accelerating talks to de-escalate the war.
Israel succeeded in its long-running mission to kill Sinwar, one of the masterminds behind the October 7, 2023, attacks. Despite this setback, Hamas vowed to continue its fight, stating that the deaths of its leaders, including Sinwar, would not signal the end of the movement.
About a dozen people killed in three strikes in Gaza, local authorities say
Around a dozen people were killed on Saturday in three separate attacks across Gaza, according to Gaza’s Civil Defense and local hospital officials.
In northern Gaza, an Israeli airstrike targeted a school in the Al Shati refugee camp near the coast, killing seven people, according to Gaza’s Civil Defense.
Al-Awda Hospital, located in central Gaza, reported receiving four bodies and four injured individuals after an airstrike west of the Nuseirat refugee camp.
Civil Defense spokesman Mahmoud Basal confirmed that in a third incident, Israeli shelling struck a residential complex in the Jabalya Al-Balad area, also in northern Gaza, resulting in five casualties, including children.
The Israeli military has acknowledged ongoing operations in various parts of Gaza, with particularly heavy activity in the north. This follows last week’s large-scale offensive by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) aimed at disrupting what it said were Hamas efforts to rebuild operational capabilities in the region.
