Dozens killed amid renewed Israeli operations in northern Gaza
Dozens of Palestinians have reportedly been killed in strikes on northern Gaza over the past 24 hours, as the Israeli military conducts operations aimed at preventing Hamas from regrouping.
In a statement released Saturday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) indicated that troops had “eliminated several terrorists in close-quarters encounters” in the Jabalya area of northern Gaza. This area has experienced ongoing strikes throughout the month, following an Israeli military order for the evacuation of large sections of northern Gaza.
The Gaza Health Ministry reported Saturday that Israeli forces have intensified their targeting of healthcare facilities in the northern Gaza Strip, directly attacking the Indonesian Hospital, Kamal Adwan Hospital, and Al-Awda Hospital in recent hours. Munir Al-Barash, the Director of the Gaza Health Ministry, stated that two patients in the intensive care unit of the Indonesian Hospital had died due to a power outage.
The Hamas-run Government Media Office in Gaza reported late Friday that 33 individuals, including 21 women, were killed in one strike in the northern Strip. The Gaza Civil Defense reported additional casualties from several other strikes.
Communication with northern Gaza remains challenging, but CNN managed to reach one Palestinian, Ismail Zaida, who described “violent air strikes in the Saftawi area” of Jabalya, stating, “We hear ambulances arriving and now, huge explosions.”
In response to the escalating violence, the IDF has issued multiple evacuation orders for northern Gaza. CNN reported video footage on Friday showing civilians leaving parts of Jabalya and heading toward Gaza City.
