At least 10 killed in Israeli strikes in south and northeast Lebanon, health ministry says
At least 10 people were killed and 31 others injured in two separate Israeli strikes in southern and northeastern Lebanon on Tuesday, according to the country’s health ministry.
In the Maali district of the northeastern city of Hermel, a strike resulted in the deaths of five people and injuries to 10 others. Meanwhile, a separate strike in the Kassar al Zaater district of the southern city of Nabatiyeh claimed at least five lives and left 21 people wounded.
The Lebanese Red Cross reported that three of its paramedics were injured during rescue operations in Nabatiyeh. The aid organization announced on X that it had coordinated with UNIFIL to access the strike site in Nabatiyeh, but the area was targeted again during search and rescue efforts, injuring the three paramedics, who were subsequently hospitalized for shrapnel injuries.
Israel is refusing evacuation requests for injured Al Jazeera staffers, network claims
Israeli authorities are refusing requests for a “critical medical evacuation” of two Al Jazeera camera operators severely injured in Gaza, the network reported Tuesday.
- Al Jazeera expressed its “appall” at the alleged refusal regarding Fadi Al Wahidi and Ali Al-Attar, who were injured in attacks by Israeli forces nearly two weeks ago, with their conditions reportedly worsening.
CNN has reached out to Israeli authorities for comment on these claims.
Al Wahidi was shot in the neck during an incident at the Jabalya refugee camp on October 9, resulting in paralysis and significant respiratory and neurological issues, according to Al Jazeera. The Israel Defense Forces stated at the time that they were “not aware of IDF troops in the specified area.”
Two days prior, Al-Attar sustained severe injuries from shrapnel during an airstrike in Deir al-Balah, suffering a cerebral hemorrhage that caused ongoing convulsions and serious nervous system damage.
Al Jazeera noted that the ongoing bombardment and the collapse of medical facilities in Gaza have made it impossible for the journalists to receive the necessary care locally. Medical teams in Gaza have “urgently requested” that the operators be evacuated to prevent their conditions from becoming fatal.
The network asserted that the refusal by Israeli authorities poses a “direct threat” to the camera operators’ lives and could amount to an act of willful murder if they succumb to their injuries.
