“UN Official Warns of Similar Warfare Tactics in Lebanon and Gaza Amid Escalating Tensions
United Nations officials have raised alarms over the potential for Lebanon to experience a crisis similar to that of Gaza. During a press briefing in Geneva on Tuesday, Jeremy Laurence, spokesperson for the UN Human Rights Commissioner, remarked, “We are observing the same patterns and methods of warfare that were employed in Gaza.”
Laurence stressed the severe toll on civilians, including the closure of hospitals, displacement of more than a million people, civilian casualties, and significant damage to educational facilities. “The devastation for people in Lebanon mirrors that of Gaza. We cannot allow this to happen again,” he warned.
UNICEF spokesperson James Elder reinforced these concerns, pointing out striking parallels between the two regions. “The intensity of early attacks, the rhetoric being used, the scale of displacement, and the sheer number of people forced to flee—the unfortunate commonalities are impossible to ignore,” Elder stated.
Israel orders hospital in northern Gaza to evacuate within 24 hours, director says
The Israeli military has ordered Kamal Adwan Hospital, the last remaining operational hospital in northern Gaza, to evacuate within 24 hours, according to its director, Hussam Abu Safiya.
Safiya stated that the military delivered a direct and urgent warning, saying, “All patients must leave Kamal Adwan Hospital by tomorrow, or our lives could be at risk.” The hospital, located between Beit Lahiya and Jabalya, sits in an area where Israel has urged residents to evacuate ahead of intensified military actions.
“This is a deliberate effort to forcibly displace residents from northern Gaza,
He explained that staff have already moved some patients to other facilities and are working to relocate more due to critical fuel shortages. However, Safiya emphasized that the hospital intends to continue providing essential medical care due to the high need for services.
“Kamal Adwan Hospital is the only facility still operating in the northern area, so shutting it down would be disastrous for those in need,” he said, noting that many patients remain in the hospital, including babies and children in the neonatal unit. He added that new patients continue to arrive.
The Gaza health ministry condemned Israel’s evacuation order and called for the protection of all medical institutions across the region.
