Explosion lights up Beirut’s skies after Israeli evacuation order
On Monday evening (local time), an explosion illuminated the skies over Beirut amid ongoing strikes targeting the southern suburbs of Lebanon’s capital, which began on September 27.
A CNN camera captured the brief explosion, which cast an orange glow over the targeted area. Throughout the day, CNN staff also reported hearing multiple strikes in Beirut’s southern suburbs.
About half an hour before CNN recorded the explosion, Avichay Adraee, the Israel Defense Forces’ (IDF) Arabic spokesperson, warned residents that the IDF would be targeting two areas in the southern suburbs—Burj Al-Barajneh and Hadath—allegedly near Hezbollah facilities.
Later, the IDF stated that the Israeli Air Force had conducted strikes on “terror targets linked to Hezbollah’s Intelligence Headquarters” on Monday night.
The IDF also reported additional strikes on Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon and the Beqaa region on Monday morning, which included “weapons storage facilities, terror infrastructure sites, and a launcher.”
